Moroccan Caftan

The Moroccan caftan first appeared in North Africa around 1700. It originated in ancient Persian culture. At the time, this traditional dress was simple and reserved only for sultans and members of Moroccan high society. Over time, this Moroccan dress has been democratised and is now accessible to all social classes. In 1960, this long dress has been appropriated by Moroccan women. The latter combined it with Andalusian embroidery. Today, the caftan has become one of the most popular oriental garments in the world of modern fashion.
